METS Technology to design and implement a more efficient and green operating solution for the S/V Ocean Surveyor.
METS Technology AB has recently been awarded with the contract to undertake a major modernization and upgrade of the Swedish research vessel which includes implementing a state-of-the-art propulsion solution and fully integrated automation.
METS will act as one of the main subcontractors to Damen Oskarshamn where the S/V Ocean Surveyor is to undergo a major life-time extension programme. The assignment includes the complete overhaul of all electrical systems, reinstalling the diesel electrical propulsion system and redesigning the entire navigation bridge. The vessel has recently arrived at the shipyard and will stay there for the duration of the project, 12 months from now.
Johan Marcusson, Managing Director METS Technology says “We are very proud to be selected as the system integrator and are very grateful to the Damen’s Shipyard and SGU for trusting us with this important role. The task of designing and implementing new technology that will contribute to a more efficient, environmentally friendly and safer operation is a key offering of the METS Technology portfolio.”
The new propulsion system is specifically designed for maritime applications and is based on Danfoss Editron technology and enhanced with the METS Control & Automation platform which will handle all engine room automation, monitoring, energy management and propulsion controls.
The project organisation consists of project management, designers, and on-site commissioning engineers together with project support and administration handled by the staff from METS in cooperation with key suppliers such as SSE, Zeatec and Danfoss Editron.
The vessel Ocean Surveyor vessel is owned by SGU, Sweden’s national geological survey agency and was built in 1984 in Norway.
